The graduation ceremony of Serial No. 23 Command and Staff Course was held amid a ceremony at Army Command and Staff College (ACSC), Shivapuri, on February 20, 2017. The Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) Gen Rajendra Chhetri graced the ceremony as the Chief Guest.
A total of 54 Student Officers, including 42 officers from Nepalese Army (NA), 7 international officers (one each from Bangladesh, China, India, Malaysia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and USA), four officers from security organizations (two officers from Armed Police Force, one each from Nepal Police and National Investigation Department) and one officer from the Ministry of Defense graduated from this 11 month long course successfully.
Chief Guest of the graduation ceremony, COAS General Rajendra Chhetri awarded the "Best Student Officer Award" to Major Kanchan Krishna Basnet and "PSC" (Passed Staff College) certificates to all the graduating officers. Similarly, Vice-Chancellor of Tribhuvan University, Prof. Dr. Tirth Raj Khaniya awarded the certificates to all graduating students from the Masters in Strategic Studies (MSS) Programme. Prof. Khaniya also presented certificate of the 'Best Student Officer' in the Master's Degree in Strategic Study to Maj Kanchan Krishna Basnet. Likewise, Commandant of ACSC, Major General Devendra Bahadur Medhasi gave away the certificate and cash prize to Major Abhishek Kumar Sharma of India for the "Best Commandant’s Paper" of the year.
During the programme, COAS Gen Chhetri unveiled the 18th volume of 'The Shivapuri', the annual journal of ACSC. The contents of this journal include; various scholarly and researched articles on contemporary issues, strategic thoughts, military history, military leadership and management, civil-military relations, national security, disaster management, strategy, operational art, military technology, military doctrine and United Nations Peacekeeping operations researched and written by the student officers, NA officers and guest speakers.
CoAS Gen Chhetri, during his graduation address, congratulated all the student officers for successfully completing the challenging and demanding course. He thanked the commandant, the senior instructors, directing staffs and all others involved in the successful management and delivery of the course.
Gen Chhetri expressed his confidence that the knowledge and skills gained through the hard word and perseverance will undoubtedly assist the student officers in their professional life. 'This course was aimed to equip you with the necessary tools to identify the problems or gaps in any situation; analyze critically to develop a viable plan; and be in position to develop and offer feasible option' Gen Chhetri added.
Earlier today, Commandant of ACSC, Major Gen Devendra Bahadur Medhasi while delivering a welcome speech highlighted the essential aspects of the course.
Present at the graduation ceremony were Vice Chancellor of TU, Foreign Ambassadors to Nepal, Defense Secretary, head of sister security organization, Professors, Military Attaché of foreign embassies, Ex- Generals of NA, senior officers of Nepal Police and Armed Police Force and Generals and officers of NA.
