Biography of Major General Devendra Bahadur Medhasi

Maj Gen Devendra Bahadur Medhasi was born on 19 November, 1961 in Parbat District, West Nepal. He was graduated from Nepalese Military Academy, Kharipati in April, 1984 and was commissioned as second lieutenant in Singh Nath Battalion where he served as a platoon commander, intelligence officer, adjutant, deputy commanding officer and commanding officer.

Maj Gen Medhasi has done various career courses and several other military courses. He has also participated in numerous workshops & seminars at home and abroad. He is an alumnus of Army command and Staff College, Shivapuri - Nepal, Defense Services Staff College, Wellington India and Royal College of Defence Studies- UK. He holds Masters degrre in Political Science from Tribhuban University, Kathmandu - Nepal and Master Degree in Strategic Defense Studies from Madras University, Madras India.

His command appointments include Company Commander - Shree Mehar Company (Independent Company), Battalion Commander - Singh Nath Battalion (now Commando Bn), Commandant at the Birendra Peace Operations Training Centre and Brigade Commander 25 and 1 Brigade (Infantry Brigade), Commandant at Army Command and Staff College, Shivapuri. Presently, he is appointed as General Officer Commanding of Western Division Headquarter.

His instructional appointments include instructor at Counter Insurgency and Jungle Warfare School, Amlekhjung and Senior Directing Staff in Higher Command and Management Course in Nagarkot.

His notable staff appointments include GSO2, MS Branch, Operation Officer in an Infantry Brigade and Deputy Director at Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO), Army HQ. Before his promotion in the rank of Major General he was the Director of Military Operations in the Nepali Army, Headquarter.

He carries tremendous experiences in United Nations Peacekeeping Operations. His UN assignments include Platoon Commander-United Nations Interim Forces in Lebanon (UNIFIL), Operation Duty officer in UNIFIL Personal Staff Officer to Deputy Force Commander (DFC) in UNIFIL and Military Observer Mission in Congo (MONUC). He also served as a Military Advisor to the Permanent Representative to the United Nations from 2005-2008 in New York, United States of Ameriac.

His selfless and unrelenting service to the country and organization has honored him with various medals like Janasewa Shree III, GODABA-IV Accession to thorn, Military service, Foreign Service-3, Disaster relief, Royal Guard.

He is the Colonel Commandant of Rana Singh Dal Battalion. Maj Gen Medhasi is happily married to Radha Medhasi and the couple is blessed with a son Sadeep and grandson Tapas.
