Biography of Major General Prahlad Thapa

Major General Pralhad Thapa joined the Nepalese Army as an officer cadet and was commissioned to Shree Nath Battalion in 1982 as a Second Lieutenant.

The General Officer is a graduate of Higher Defense Management Course, India and National Defence University, China. He has also attended the Special Force training in USA and SAS(Basic and Advance) Course in UK.

He holds the Masters of Political Science, Masters of History and Masters of Management from Tribhuvan University, Nepal.

Maj Gen Thapa commanded the Yuddha Bhairav Company, Mahabir Battalion (Rangers), Army War College and Special Security Force. He served as Brigade commander of No 6 Brigade and No 10 Brigade. He also served as the deputy Coordinator of National Security Council.

He is the Colonel Commandant of Mahabir Battalion (Rangers).

As far as his UN peacekeeping experience, he has served in UNIFIL (Lebanon) as Contingent Commander, in UNPROFOR (Yugoslavia) as Military Observer and Sierra Leone as Chief Training Officer.

He is happily married to Mrs Sharada Shah and blessed with one son and one daughter.
